It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Retired Assistant Chief Donald “D.C.” Johnson. Chief Johnson proudly served the City of El Paso and the El Paso Fire Department for many years and was regarded as a great friend and an excellent firefighter by the members of the Department. Among his many achievements, Chief Johnson was the recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Award in 1978, one of the highest awards for a firefighter in the United States. Chief Johnson passed away on January 16, 2020 at the age of 78 with family at his side.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jenny Johnson; sons, Thomas Johnson, Retired Captain Christopher A. Johnson and his wife, Cheryl Johnson; grandchildren and many friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 at 1:00PM at Sunset Funeral Home-West located at 480 N. Resler Dr. There will not be any gravesite services.
